Whether you are leading meditation workshops, contact improvisation retreats, daily yoga classes, team-building staff retreats, spiritual pilgrimages, or business retreats, You Are Educating.
Becoming a master educator – across contexts, contents and demographics – requires two things that are rare and essential to meaningful and lasting learning: deep clarity and genuine curiosity. After 12 years working as a full time teacher and coach, I’m passionate about these things and life coaching is a powerful vehicle for developing both.
In order to be the most effective and powerful leader you can be, you must have clarity of purpose at all grain sizes. This means that you have to be extremely clear about the what, how and why of your offering at both the macro scale (like your mission), the micro scale (the timing of your retreat schedule) and everything in between. Every decision – and there are thousands in a day – is an opportunity to raise your consciousness and thereby deepen the power and impact of your service.
Deep clarity in leaders is rare – and it’s at the heart of what makes group leadership and teaching of any kind so powerful. That’s why I work with my clients on all aspects of creating, planning and executing retreats and workshops – each aspect is an opportunity to get even clearer, a lens through which to see the whole. The way you do anything is the way you do everything, so we’ll use anything and everything to support your development. Whatever you’re good at, we can leverage and make stronger. Whatever you’re working on, we can develop so that you rise above the din of all the many retreat leaders in the world and shine brightly with the clear service you are in this world to provide.
In order to be responsive to a room of people, to deepen in your own practice of leadership, to stay attentive even when momentary triggers and unexpected events threaten to distract you from your purpose, the most important quality is genuine curiosity for what’s happening in the room. As a leader and teacher, your capacity to be interested in and pay attention to the whole experience of your participants is critical.
The process of life coaching is one of developing curiosity - about yourself, and then everything else. Giving - generously - your attention to every experience and allowing each bit of emotional data inform your choices is necessary to facilitate deep transformation and growth. I LOVE retreats because they create such a powerful container for expansion and evolution, and these are the ingredients for making the world a better, more loving and more joyful place.
