Do you know this saying?
“Hindsight is 20/20.”
When you look into the past, things make sense. You can clearly see how it all the dots connect, how everything works out. There’s certainty in looking at the past - it’s already happened.
This experience can be a powerful tool - you can use your kinesthetic understanding of certainty about the past to manifest your vision of the future. Sink into certainty - it’s already done.
Recently, we talked about connecting with your future self and I want to follow up.
Have you taken time to tap into your biggest, wildest (and possibly most terrifying) dream?
Have you tried visioning with that version of you by your side?
The YOU who is already living a life of total success, abundance and bliss? The YOU who consistently achieves the $100k month… the YOU who has already built the ultimate 7-figure business… the YOU who is soaring high in your purpose, fulfilled and delighted and easily expanding into more?
The next step is decision.
Have you decided to claim this version of your life? Have you made the clear decision to create it?
If the answer is “Yes”… then no doubt you’ve noticed how exciting and edgy it feels to commit to this new level of living.
There’s a space between where you are and where you want to be. And it can feel massive. Impassible.
Because let’s be honest - it's harder to have faith in something that you can't see and touch.
And there's ALWAYS lag time between what we see in our minds and what we create in the future. Whether it’s 30 seconds or 3 months - that lag time leaves room for all kinds of doubt, fear, and worry to creep in.
How do you move through all of that negativity?
See your present reality from the vantage point of your future self. Choose the certainty, the knowing, and the ease of that perspective. Use your imagination to FUEL your decision.
When you have the vision for your future, immediately claim it as done. See it. Feel it. Know it to be real. Step into the sensation of your future self, which is experiencing a reality where you have already created all that you now dream of.
There is only one difference between those who succeed and create the lives they truly want - and those who don’t:
And using your future self to claim CERTAINTY will help give you confidence and momentum to make that decision, fortify your commitment, and make it happen.
Let’s say your goal is to bring in $30K in one month and you’ve never done that before.
Use your imagination…
You call in the resources, the clients, the success — whatever it is that you want — and you reach your goal.
You bring in every last dollar.
You congratulate yourself. This is huge! You’re excited and grateful and ready for more.
Feel it. That’s what happened. From your future self’s perspective.
Steve Jobs - one of the most visionary and innovative personalities of our time - said, “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”
And that’s a starting point - and knowing that you WILL connect the dots looking back, you can CHOOSE to bring that certainty into your present.
Because the thing is, as soon as you realize one goal, you’re going to vision again, and the whole process will start over. It’s an ongoing process. You will never NOT be dreaming, visioning, growing, reaching. Therefore you will always have dots that you don’t fully understand as they arise. It’s a continual evolution where you’re constantly stretching yourself beyond what you’ve experienced before…then meeting up with that new vision, stretching some more, and meeting with a new vision again.
This is what living a growth-based life looks like.
If you are committed to growth, you’ll ALWAYS have that slight feeling of being out of sync… because you’re always working that edge!
That slight discomfort is always there…
...because you’re ALWAYS capable of visioning more than what you’ve currently created.
It’s not a “problem.” It’s just uncomfortable to experience not being there yet.
In this situation, only two things are possible:
You’ll either rise up to the challenge to meet the vision of what you want in full faith - It’s already done! or…
You’ll sink back into fear and doubt… and let your desire fade away and dissolve.
You’re either identified with your future self OR you are identified with your fear about the future. You can't do both.
Fear and faith can’t live in the same house.
I would recommend that you actively feel this place every day. Acknowledge your growth edge. Feel the future version of yourself. Imagine you’ve already achieved the goal you want, and it’s done. See it. Feel it. Know it to be true.
Get excited about the in-between space. Enjoy getting comfortable with the discomfort of traversing that space — and then, get thrilled with the NEW space that’s here already, the moment you’ve decided on a new goal.
Connect with the truth of the part of you that’s already here. In your present reality, your body isn’t there yet. Your emotions aren’t there yet. Or your bank account isn’t there yet.
But the fact that you can even dream this vision means there is a part of you that’s already there.
If you are serious about living a life on fire with purpose, you WILL experience the discomfort of visioning beyond your current experience - again and again and again.
Getting comfortable with that edgy space - opening it up, living in the discomfort of it, and loving yourself in the process?
That is the very essence and opportunity of life.
