Jahnavi Harrison is a musician, artist and writer whose work is inspired by the spiritual path of Bhakti Yoga. Bhakti is about devotion. Love for the divine, love for the world, love for everything. Sometimes described as love for love’s sake, it has been my path as well.
I met Jahnavi about 10 years ago when she was touring yoga studios around NYC. I saw her sing and dance, and I remember just weeping, it was so beautiful. From there I followed her around. Anywhere I could find her, I was listening to her. When I started my business, I would go into my very first office every day and immediately put on her album before starting to work.
Jahnavi has travelled the world for more than 12 years, offering her voice and violin playing in the performance of sacred music and call-and-response mantra chant (kirtan). Her sound encompasses rich influences of East and West, and aims to offer an experience which truly nourishes the spirit. Her debut album, ‘Like a River to the Sea’ was released in July 2015, following which she was part of the Grammy nominated album ‘Bhakti Without Borders’ in 2016. Most recently she released ‘Surrender: Krishna Keshava’ with Willow Smith. Based in both London and New York, she offers regular concerts, sound baths and workshops. Jahnavi presents regularly for BBC Radio 2’s ‘Pause for Thought’ and ‘Something Understood’ on BBC Radio 4.
In this interview of The Success Sessions, we dive into her incredible story of success as an artist and her deep experience of spiritual love. (Hint: they’re related.)
